We have been indie developers since 2009. We make a profit doing what we do. We don’t have any huge hits but we can keep the lights on and are able to save money. We also have what some would call “real jobs” to get us through the lean times financially. We have seen the indie game movement evolve very quickly in a short period of time. We started out using the Torque Game Engine developed by Garagegames.com. We released a few products using their various engines and may still in the future. For the most part we have moved on to Unity for its continued evolution in tech. We will always have a soft spot in our hearts for Torque though since it was the technology that Tribes was built on.
We at IndieDevRx know that the games industry is tough to make a living at. That’s why we are attempting to offer these low cost databases and building a free to the public (donation funded) web pages that organize useful industry links to the community to help you grow your business as well as ours. We have a vested interest in your success.
I started my game development company in 2009. I didn’t make a profit until 2011. I did a lot of work prior to 2009 learning game technology, learning to program etc. I spent about 8 years prior to starting my business just learning the craft. The info wasn’t so robust as it is now. Garagegames.com was a major influence in guiding the indie game community to understand the business and I will always be grateful to them for their vision and effort.
